Verdo appoints new CEO

20-09-2019

47-year old Jakob Flyvbjerg Christensen has been appointed as CEO of Verdo. He is expected to take up his new position January 1, 2020.

Jakob Flyvbjerg Christensen has international experience from one of the major Danish groups, A. P. Møller-Maersk. Moreover, Christensen has experience navigating between commercial business and political environments from his current job as CEO at the biggest commercial harbor in Denmark.

The 47-year old CEO returns to his native city after six years at Port of Aarhus and a long-term engagement at A.P Møller-Maersk with several leading roles − counting Global Client Director at APM Terminals in Holland and CEO at APM Terminals in Aarhus.

During the Summer, Verdo has looked for a new CEO, and Jakob Flyvbjerg Christensen was chosen because of his international experience and his experience working in commercial companies that are simultaneously regulated by the government.

The pool of candidates has been very competent, and we have taken the time needed to find the right candidate. Jakob Flyvbjerg Christensen is a modern leader who is used to media exposure, knows how to deal with conflicted areas and can drive change. I am convinced that he has the profile to get Verdo back on track and to further develop our business according to our strategy – in Denmark as well as abroad,” says chairman of the board, Torben Høeg Bonde.

"Jakob Flyvbjerg Christensen has an impressive career so far with various leading roles at one of the biggest and most respected business groups in Denmark. It is equally as important that he has experience working in the intersection between commercial and regulated areas. This is positive for the board because he is important in our task to define our way forward in that area.

Since 2014, Jakob Flyvbjerg Christensen has been CEO at Port of Aarhus, but he had no regrets accepting the role in Verdo.

I have had a wonderful time at Port of Aarhus, but my interest in the job at Verdo was intensified when the dialogue became more serious. I want to be part of recreating the trust, credibility, and calmness around all Verdo’s stakeholders, so the employees and the citizens proudly can mirror themselves in one of the major companies in the Randers area. As Port of Aarhus, Verdo is a commercial, but regulated business, and the diversity between the regulatory affairs and the commercial areas is a challenging, but interesting field to work in,” says Jakob Flyvbjerg Christensen and continues.

Verdo and the supply service business are changing fast, and I am dedicated to creating growth, a healthy economy as well as renewable and digital solutions, which can create a leading and robust business in the future.
